Современный стандарт телевещания поддерживает частоту сигнала 50 Гц. По этой причине при просмотре DVD-фильмов или спутниковых каналов может возникнуть мерцание. Большинство производителей удваивает стандартную частоту для устранения этого нежелательного эффекта. Иными словами, одно и то же изображение дублируется, однако этого недостаточно, и зритель все равно может заметить интервалы между демонстрацией оригинального кадра и его копии. Для устранения мерцания в плазменных телевизорах Samsung применяется особый алгоритм Smooth Motion Driver , который добавляет дополнительные кадры, обеспечивая более комфортное, четкое и плавное изображение.
